ZONING HEARING BOARD

The Zoning Hearing Board (ZHB) is an independent board that helps resolve zoning issues in the borough. It does not make the zoning laws (that’s Borough Council’s job) — instead, it makes sure the rules are applied fairly.

The ZHB can:

  • Hear appeals if you disagree with a decision by the Zoning Officer.

  • Decide on variances when property owners face hardships with zoning rules.

  • Review special exceptions that may be allowed if certain conditions are met.

  • Interpret the zoning ordinance or zoning map when questions arise.

The Board meets as needed and holds public hearings. Members are borough residents, appointed by Borough Council, and act independently — they cannot serve as other borough officials.

If you have a zoning issue or question about the process, contact the Borough Zoning Officer for guidance on whether a hearing before the ZHB is required.
