"Conto" and
"Sabre" are German Shepards, imported from the Czech
Republic by our master trainer, William Castle of Castle Canine.
Both canines are crossed trained in patrol work and narcotics
detection.
HISTORY -
Wilson
Borough started utilizing canine within the Department in 1981.
Patrolman Cal Siegfried started training his first canine partner with
the help of the City of Easton Canine Unit. Since 1981 Wilson
has had as many as three canine teams in the department. They
included Sgt. Dave Rogers with partner "Barron", Patrolman
Larry Hendershot and partner "Moodich" and Patrolman Tim
Sullivan and partner "Cay". Patrolman Mike Potope
joined the Wilson Canine Corps with his partner "Sabre" in
1997.
Wilson Borough has used
the canine teams effectively during crowd control, building searches,
area searches. tracking and narcotic searches. The Canine Corps
has also assisted other area departments when a canine team is needed.
